The Huskies outscored BU, 3-1, in the final period to force the extra frame. Spencer Naas, who scored twice, Kasperi Ojantakanen and Alexander Payusov recorded Connecticut’s third-period goals. Payusov scored on the power play with 5:37 left in regulation to tie the game. Naas’ third-period tally also came on the man advantage.
The Terriers led, 1-0, after the first period behind Chad Krys’ power-play goal at the 14:01 mark.
Connecticut tied the game at 1-1 at the 4:12 mark of the second period when Naas scored off assists from Payusov and Benjamin Freeman. BU responded with goals from Bobo Carpenter and Brien Diffley over the remainder of the period to take a 3-1 advantage into the second intermission.
Ty Amonte scored six minutes into the third period to give BU a 4-2 lead.
The Terriers outshot UConn, 25-11, over the first two periods and 31-20 overall.
Jake Oettinger made 15 saves for BU. Tanner Creel made 27 stops for the Huskies.
