A night after earning a triple-overtime victory to survive, Brett Magnus made 32 saves for his second collegiate shutout, while Mike Crocock and Austin McIlmurray scored first-period goals to lift the Pioneers to a Sunday victory and advance to the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals for the first time since 2015.
Crocock and McIlmurray both scored in Saturday’s 4-3 win, the longest-game in each program’s history, while Zach Tsekos posted two assists for the second consecutive game. Crocock’s opening goal at 12:06 turned out to be the game-winner. Twelve of the Pioneers’ 18 skaters posted points during the three-game series.
Magnus made 18 of his stops in the third period to improve to 13-14-2, while Logan Drackett stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced in RIT’s net.
