Behind 41 saves from Patrick Munson, the Michigan Tech Huskies defeated the host Minnesota State Mavericks in overtime to advance to the WCHA championship game against Northern Michigan next Saturday.
Jake Jackson was the hero for the Huskies, scoring at 15:07 of the extra session. Jackson drove the slot and shot between two Mavericks defenders, beating goalie Connor LaCouvee stick side.
It was Jackson’s second goal of the game. He scored at 6:29 of the second to put Michigan Tech in front 1-0. Jackson stationed himself in front of the crease and redirected a pass from Brent Baltus low stick side.
Zeb Knutson tied it at 10:30, gathering in his own rebound and beating Munson with a power-play strike.
It is the second year in a row that Michigan Tech will play for the WCHA championship. Last year, the Huskies beat Bowling Green 3-2 in double OT. That game was at home. Next weekend, the Huskies will be on the road against Northern Michigan, where the Wildcats beat the Huskies twice during the regular season. Michigan Tech beat Northern Michigan twice at home.
