Two coaches with a combined 1,279 games behind the bench over 56 seasons, coached against each other for the final time Saturday, and for the final time in each of their careers.
Wesleyan, led by Dave Snyder, beat Connecticut College, with Doug Roberts behind the bench, 5-0. Neither school reached the NESCAC tournament, so each team’s season is over.
Snyder and Roberts are the only varsity coaches in the schools’ history.
Snyder is retiring after 32 years as Wesleyan’s coach. He leaves with a 277-442-31 record.
He came to the school in 1970 aand served as an assistant coach of the school’s club team in 1970-71. He then became head coach in 1971-72, the first varsity season at Wesleyan.
Roberts is also retiring after 24 years at Connecticut College. His record is 252-249-28.
He coached Connecticut College’s club team in 1979-80, then became the varsity coach a year later.
