After rebounding from one foot in the grave all the way to the league’s regular-season championship, it’s no surprise that Quinnipiac cleaned up at the Atlantic Hockey awards banquet, taking home two of the league’s top three honors.
Defenseman Reid Cashman, who led the nation in scoring for defensemen this season with 43 points, was named Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year. Bobcats coach Rand Pecknold, who resurrected his team from seventh place at one point in January all the way first come season’s end, was presented Atlantic Hockey Coach of the Year honors.
Mercyhurst freshman Ben Cottreau, with 30 points in 32 games, received the nod for Rookie of the Year.
The league, in its second full season of existence, also handed out a host of new awards.
Two Lakers were recipients of new defensive awards. Scott Reynolds was named the league’s Best Defensive Forward while Conrad Martin was chosen as Best Defensive Defenseman.
Army’s Chris Garceau, who totaled only 12 minutes in penalties this season, won the league’s Individual Sportsmanship Award, while Holy Cross as a team was presented with the first-ever Team Sportsmanship Award.
Cashman and Sacred Heart’s Pierre-Luc O’Brien were unanimous First Team All-Conference selections. Joining the pair on the All-Conference team were Holy Cross’ Tyler McGregor, Connecticut’s Tim Olsen, Mercyhurst’s T.J. Kemp, and two goaltenders, Frank Novello from American International and Bryan Worosz of Canisius.
