The ECAC Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Stephen R. Bamford as Interim Commissioner.
Bamford began his tenure at the ECAC in August, 2000 and has served as assistant commissioner for officiating and compliance. Prior to the ECAC, Bamford was the director of athletics at Plymouth State University for 13 years.
Bamford will serve in the interim role until a new commissioner is named and he will then return to his assistant commissioner position.
The ECAC Board of Directors also named Wayne Dean, senior associate athletics director at Yale University and ECAC Board of Directors vice president as chair of the search committee.
Former commissioner Phil Buttafuoco resigned his position last month after seven-and-a-half years at the helm.
Although the governance of the Division I men’s and women’s ECAC Hockey Leagues separated from the ECAC prior to the 2004-05 season, the ECAC still administers Division III ice hockey leagues for the ECAC East, West and Northeast for the men and the ECAC East and West for the women.
A search committee will be named and charged by Feb. 15, 2006.
