2010 NCAA quarterfinalist Boston University isn’t rebuilding, it’s reloading … and then some.
On the heels of their most successful season to date, the Terriers are including 2010 Canadian Olympic stars Catherine Ward and Marie-Philip Poulin among their newest members, according to a source within the program. The duo — which helped the Canadian national team best the Americans 2-0 in the finals in February — join New Hampshire transfer Jenn Wakefield in a gold-medal trio on coach Brian Durocher’s roster.
Ward, who scored two goals and two assists and registered a plus-15 in her five games played in Vancouver, will man BU’s blue line for her sole year of NCAA eligibility. Wakefield (who was a substitute on the Olympic roster) has two years’ worth of eligibility remaining after standout freshman and sophomore years in Durham. Philip-Poulin — who scored both of Canada’s goals in the gold-medal contest — totaled five goals and seven points in the tournament.
Ward and Philip-Poulin are not officially members of the Terriers’ roster just yet, however. Standard paperwork still remains to be processed, though the source said that there are no foreseen complications.
