Harvard 0 at Princeton 1
Sophomore Mike Condon’s career-high 36 saves bested senior Kyle Richter’s 34, as the Tigers netminder recorded his first career shutout thanks to senior Mike Kramer’s first-period strike. The officials whistled only four penalties, leading to 71 combined shots (including 15 apiece in the second period) in a wide-open, fast-paced contest.
Brown 5 at Colgate 2
Brown’s first three goals were of the special-teams variety (power-play, power-play, and shorthanded) and Bruno blanked Colgate on all five of its PP chances in the win. Frosh Dennis Robertson scored his team-leading fourth goal in his fifth NCAA game, and sophomore Chris Zaires, juniors Jack Maclellan and Bobby Farnham and senior David Brownschidle also chipped in for the Bears. Junior goalie Mike Clemente made 28 saves on 30 shots, besting sophomore Alex Evin (20 saves), whose only support came from soph Robbie Bourdon and junior Matt Firman. Colgate’s power-play woes extended to 24 straight advantages without a goal.
Dartmouth 0 at Quinnipiac 2
Sophomore Eric Hartzell’s career-high 31 saves earned him his second career shutout, and rookie John Dunbar’s first collegiate goal proved to be the game-winner. Junior Scott Zurevinzki iced the Big Green with an empty-netter in the one-hour, 55-minute game that featured the lone two goals and only three penalties. Junior James Mello stopped 20 of 21 in the hard-luck loss, his first of the season.
Yale 4 at Cornell 2
The Bulldogs extended their winning streak against Cornell to six games in the comeback win, as rookie Jesse Root, junior Chad Ziegler and seniors Broc Little and Brendan Mason lit Lynah’s lamps. The Devins – senior twins Mike and Joe – scored to put the Big Red up 2-1 in the second period, but senior goalie Ryan Rondeau shut the door thereafter with 15 stops. Junior Mike Garman saved 26 of 29 for Cornell.
Saturday, November 20
Dartmouth 3 at Princeton 2
Rookie Matt Lindblad’s short-handed goal in the game’s 34th minute stood up as the game-winner, as Dartmouth terminated Princeton’s win streak at four games. Mello’s 33 saves put him back on the winning track, supported by goals from sophomore Dustin Walsh and senior Andrew Owsiak, as well. Sophomore Eric Meland and senior Kevin Lohry’s goals weren’t enough to lift senior goalie Alan Reynolds, who finished with 19 saves. Dartmouth scored on one of its two power plays Saturday, while negating all seven of Princeton’s.
St. Lawrence 1 at Clarkson 3
The North Country rivalry tilted once more toward Clarkson, as freshman Matt Zarbo scored twice and junior Paul Karpowich made 24 saves in the Golden Knights’ second win over SLU in three weeks. Senior Scott Freeman scored the game-winning goal 16 minutes into the first period, as rookie Kyle Essery’s first NCAA goal wasn’t enough for the Saints or classmate and goalie Matt Weninger (15 saves).
Harvard 4 at Quinnipiac 5
The Crimson scored three goals in 4:02 of the second period to erase what had been a 4-1 QU lead, but sophomore Ben Arnt’s second goal of the evening did Harvard in five minutes into the final frame. Harvard’s Richter surrendered three goals on a dozen shots before being lifted for senior Ryan Carroll (24 saves), while Hartzell rode out the comeback to finish with 28 saves and his fourth victory in four starts. Dunbar, freshman Kellen Jones and junior Yuri Bouharevich also scored for the Bobcats, while soph Conor Morrison and juniors Rence Coassin, Colin Moore and Alex Killorn did the damage for Harvard, which didn’t earn a single power play in the game (QU was 1-2 on the PP).
Brown 3 at Cornell 2
In defeating Cornell for the first time since January 2007 (seven straight losses between the victories), the Bears also wrested their first sweep at Colgate and Cornell since 1992-93, when current head coach Brendan Whittet was a junior blue-liner for Bruno. Freshman Matt Wahl’s first collegiate goal opened the scoring in front of Clemente (20 saves), and seniors Harry Zolnierczyk and Jesse Fratkin finished it off. Junior Jordan Kary and senior Joe Devin scored for the Big Red and frosh Andy Iles stopped 16. Cornell hit its second three-game losing skid of the season, the first time that has happened in a Big Red regular-season campaign since 1999-00.
Yale 6 at Colgate 4
Yale scored three goals in only 1:17 in the first period, then scored another trio in a 4:37 stretch of the second period to run away from Colgate. Rondeau improved to 6-0-0 with 29 saves, and the Bulldogs got goals from freshmen Kenny Agostino and Jesse Root, sophomores Antoine Laganiere and Andrew Miller, and seniors Jeff Anderson and Broc Little. Colgate rookie Eric Mihalik stopped 28, and the Raiders hung tough with goals by frosh Mike McCann, soph Robbie Bourdon, junior Nick Prockow and senior Brian Day. Colgate lost its fifth straight and is 0-5-1 in its last six despite scoring on two of five power plays Saturday night.
