The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Wisconsin junior defenseman Jake Gardiner to an entry-level contract.
The Leafs acquired Gardiner on Feb. 9 from Anaheim along with Joffrey Lupul and a conditional fourth round draft pick in 2013 in exchange for defenceman Francois Beauchemin.
Gardiner was originally Anaheim’s first round choice (17th overall) in the 2008 NHL draft.
Gardiner played 41 games for the Badgers this season and tallied 40 points on 10 goals and 30 assists. In 2009, he was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team.
