Dr. E. J. Brophy has been chosen to become the new athletic director at Alabama-Huntsville.
“I want to thank the search committee and chairman John Horack for finding quality candidates during this interview process,” interim UAH president Dr. Malcolm Portera said in a statement. “When the committee looked at the strengths that E. J. Brophy possesses, it was clear that he was the best fit for the future of athletics at UAHuntsville. His qualifications are ideally suited for him to provide leadership in all aspects of Charger athletics.”
Brophy had been the athletic director at West Alabama since 2006 and also has athletic administrative experience at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
“I am extremely honored to have been afforded this opportunity by Dr. Portera and the University of Alabama in Huntsville,” Dr. Brophy added. “UAHuntsville is a fantastic research university with so many wonderful scholar-athletes, and I look forward to working with all of the great Charger students, fans, friends and alums. We will effort every day to have the type of athletic department that our university and the Huntsville community will be extremely proud of in every way, and I look forward to joining the Charger family in May.”
Brophy succeeds Jim Harris, who passed away last December from a heart attack. He is expected to begin his duties on May 9 pending approval by the Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama.
