Of last week’s picks, all six games were decided by one goal. Four of those six games went to overtime. If this is any kind of indication of any sort of competitive level, consider that all six of the games picked and predicted were nonconference games for both the ECAC Northeast and the MASCAC.
Another thing last week’s picks proved: I’m no psychic, not by any means. I finished 2-4 last week, bringing my season record to 24-16-5.
Here are picks for this week’s games:
ECAC Northeast
Wentworth at Plymouth State, 6 p.m. Saturday
Wentworth enters a weekend series at Plymouth State on a bit of a tear, as the Leopards have won four of their last five games, including Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime win against Bowdoin. Wentworth’s Mike Domsodi joins Nichols’ Louie Educate as two of the ECAC Northeast’s leading freshmen scorers — each has 16 points. Plymouth State meanwhile, looks to shake off the rust from the holiday break, as the Panthers will play their first game since December 10. Wentworth 5-3
Western New England at Connecticut College, 7 p.m. Saturday
Connecticut College upstaged Curry with a 4-2 win Wednesday in a nonconference game, scoring a pair of goals in the final six minutes to earn the win, and the Camels could take that momentum into another nonconference game against the Golden Bears, who boast one of the ECAC Northeast’s leading goalies in Eric Sorenson (1.94 GAA, .940 saves percentage). Curry at Manhattanville, 7 p.m. Tuesday
Curry left Thursday for New York after back-to-back losses, including Wednesday’s 4-2 nonconference loss at Connecticut College. Payden Benning scored both goals for Curry against Connecticut College, and he and Johnson and Wales’ Danny Kaufmann each lead the ECAC Northeast with 13 goals. Benning, Kauffman, and Castleton’s Nick Lazorko also lead the nation with 13 goals each (entering Thursday’s games). Curry 4-3
MASCAC
Nichols vs. Worcester State, Worcester City Shootout, 2:30 p.m. Friday
Entering the four-team Worcester City Shootout, Nichols has lost six of its last seven games, yet is paced by freshman Louie Educate (nine goals, seven assists). Worcester State resumes its schedule, playing in its first game since December 10, a 4-0 win at Salem State. Worcester State goalie Bryan Kalczynski leads the MASCAC with a .931 saves percentage and is tied with Plymouth State’s Jack Astedt for a league-leading 2.07 goals-against average. Elmira vs. Fitchburg State, Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament, at Norwich, 4 p.m. Friday
Thomas McAleer leads Fitchburg State with five goals and seven assists, but the Falcons are 1-3-1 in their last five games — all prior to the holiday break. The winner of this game will face either Morris or Norwich, the No. 1 team in the nation, Saturday for the tournament championship. Elmira 3-1
Salem State at Southern Maine, 7 p.m. Saturday
Salem State opened the new year with three nonconference games, and Saturday’s game will be the last before a week-long break for the Vikings, who, entering Thursday’s game at New England College, have the top penalty kill in the MASCAC and the fourth-best penalty kill in the nation (46 of 50, 92 percent).
