Nichols has seemed to have snapped itself out of a funk, and the Bison did it in a big way Saturday night at home against Johnson and Wales.
To beat the team with one of the nation’s top offenses, Nichols simply had to score more goals.
Louie Educate’s second goal of the game — scored with 7:05 left in regulation — helped lift the Bison to a 5-3 win over the Wildcats, but also helped Nichols continue a torrid scoring pace.
Nichols has scored 16 goals in its last two games, including Wednesday’s 11-3 win Wednesday at Suffolk, and has won three of its last five games. The Bison entered the holiday break 2-7-1 and went through a stretch of five consecutive losses in which they were outscored 36-13 from November 19 to December 4.
Nichols (5-11-1, 3-3-0 ECAC Northeast) hosts Salve Regina at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, then hosts Western New England at 4:40 p.m. Saturday.
Winless streak over
Curry snapped a seven-game winless streak with 4-2 win Saturday over Wentworth. The Colonels (8-7-1, 6-0-0 ECAC Northeast) were winless in 2012, but (surprisingly) remain undefeated in conference play. Saturday’s win over Wentworth was Curry’s first ECAC Northeast game since December 3, a 5-1 win at Suffolk.
Marred by penalties
Speaking of Suffolk, the Rams have lost 13 in a row, including Saturday’s 9-1 loss to Western New England — a game marred by 131 minutes in penalties, many doled out as a result of a second-period brawl in which 10 players, five from each team, were ejected: Suffolk’s Tim Sprague and Western New England’s Adam Bristol and John Kelly received game disqualifications, while Suffolk’s Chris Rettig, Ryan DesRoches, David Seidell and J.M. Leach, and Western New England’s Brian Prost, Trent Krueger and Aaron Ziegler, each received game misconducts.
