Nebraska-Omaha junior defenseman Andrej Sustr has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, forgoing his senior season with the Mavericks
Sustr tallied nine goals and 25 points in 39 games with Nebraska-Omaha in 2012-13 to go along with 53 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound defender participated in the Lightning’s summer development camp last summer.
“Andre is a big, mobile, right-shot defenseman with very good skills,” Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman said in a statement. “We feel he has great potential to develop into a good NHL player. We’re excited to have him join our organization.”
Sustr, a 22-year-old Czech Republic native, skated in 111 career games in Omaha, posting 15 goals and 51 points to go along with a plus-24 rating.
