St. Cloud State fires women’s coach Giesen after last-place finish

St. Cloud State has fired women’s hockey coach Jeff Giesen after eight seasons.

Athletic director Heather Weems announced that Giesen’s contract would not be renewed.

“We want to thank Jeff for his concern and commitment for our student-athletes and St. Cloud State,” Weems said in a statement. “We appreciate what he has done for our program and the university.”

Giesen had a 79-178-35 record with the Huskies, who finished 4-27-5 this season and in last place in the WCHA.

“I want to thank our former players, coaches and staff members who have been a part of this program over the years,” Giesen said in a statement. “This a great program and an even better university.”

Giesen was a St. Cloud State assistant from 2003 to 2006.
