Lake Superior State has named Peter Aubry as an assistant coach.
Aubry, who spent the past three seasons as an assistant at Mercyhurst after playing nine seasons professionally, is a former goaltender who will coach the Lakers’ defense.
“I was fortunate that when I was still playing in the minors, I spent a lot of time in Pittsburgh training goaltenders,” Aubry said in a statement. “I had some success with that at Mercyhurst, too, but I pride myself on being a good hockey coach and assistant coach. Hopefully, I can add a lot from a whole defensive standpoint.”
“We’re excited to have him on board,” LSSU head coach Damon Whitten added. “Working with our goaltenders will be a big area of expertise he will bring. And he’ll complement Rich Metro’s role as offensive coordinator by being defensive coordinator, implementing strategies with our defense and penalty kill.”
Whitten also said all three LSSU coaches will have a hand in recruiting.
The Lake Superior State news release also stated that Aubry passed up other coaching opportunities during recent years.
Prior to joining the Mercyhurst coaching staff, Aubry was a goaltending coach in Europe and a training camp evaluator for two United States Hockey League programs. He has been the head instructor at the Shane Clifford Goalie School in Pittsburgh since 2003.
Aubry played at Mercyhurst from 1998 to 2002.
