Minnesota freshman Leon Bristedt must sit out the first two games of the season after the NCAA ruled that he played with professionals while with a Swedish amateur team.
Bristedt’s Linkoping team in Sweden featured a professional player for two games, which under NCAA rules means a two-game punishment.
That’ll keep him out of the Gophers’ games against Minnesota-Duluth and either host Notre Dame or Rensselaer at the IceBreaker Tournament.
He is eligible to play in Minnesota’s exhibition game against the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology on Oct. 4.
