Union freshman forward Kevin Shier has left the Dutchmen program.
Dutchmen coach Rick Bennett told the Times Union that Shier is “back on the streets of Ontario” and that Shier only alerted Bennett that he was leaving on Sunday.
Shier played Saturday night against Quinnipiac.
Bennett elaborated on the situation in the Daily Gazette.
“He decided he wanted to leave the team,” said Bennett. “We had our discussion, and he’s gone. He made the choice that he wanted to leave. I said OK. We don’t want anybody in that room that doesn’t want to be there. It was his personal decision, and we agreed with it. See you later.
“You go through tough times in life, and I don’t think that you should quit. This is one of them.”
In 13 games this season with Union, Shier recorded two assists.
