Post University announced on Monday that it will add men’s and women’s hockey programs to its athletic department beginning with the 2015-16 academic year, with the men’s team becoming the seventh member of the Northeast-10.
Pete Whitney has been named the head coach of the men’s team, while a search is underway for a women’s head coach.
Whitney is currently the associate head coach at The Gunnery School in Washington, Conn., and has previously served as the head coach at Central Connecticut State. Whitney is also a former regional scout for the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League.
“I am very excited that our Board of Trustees has approved both men’s and women’s hockey here at Post University,” said Post president Dr. Don Mroz in a statement. “We were very fortunate to hire Pete Whitney as the head coach for our men’s hockey team, and are excited for him to start full time on April 6. Pete comes with great experience, and we are very fortunate to have hired someone with his knowledge, skill, and expertise. He will begin recruiting immediately with hopes that we can put together a team for the 2015-16 season.”
Post University is located in Waterbury, Conn.
