Here’s some info on the 16th Florida College Hockey Classic:
The details
Where: Germain Arena, Estero, Fla.
Monday’s schedule: No. 1 Providence (12-0-3) vs. No. 9 Cornell (8-1-2), 4 p.m. EST; Ohio State (3-11) vs. No. 4 Boston College (13-2-1), 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday’s schedule: Third-place game, 4 p.m. EST; championship game, 7:30 p.m.
Notes to know
Providence is the nation’s only unbeaten team heading into the second half and has done so with a solid balance of goal scoring and defense. It would be unthinkable to go the entire season without a loss and, for that matter, it could be tough to come out of Florida still unbeaten.
Cornell was one of ECAC Hockey’s first-half surprises thanks to a balanced offense and stingy defense led by goalie Mitch Gillam.
Ohio State got off to another slow start this season, losing its first seven contests before winning three in a row and wrapping up the first half with four more defeats. Ohio State is 0-8 this season against ranked teams.
A solid first half left Boston College in the position where a championship in Florida would leave coach Jerry York just a single win away from reaching the 1,000-win milestone.
