I thought I was looking good to put distance between Matthew and me last week after Friday, but then Minnesota-Duluth had to go and sweep North Dakota. Regardless, I still picked up another game, going 6-4 (.600) while Matthew went 5-5 (.500). On the year, I am 25-18-6 (.571) while Matthew is 21-22-6 (.489).
Friday-Saturday, Nov. 4-5
No. 1 Minnesota-Duluth at No. 8 St. Cloud State
Candace: St. Cloud’s defense hasn’t been the greatest early in the season, and I don’t know how much I can take from the Huskies shutting down Alabama-Huntstville last weekend. Duluth would seem to be primed for a letdown after the emotional sweep of North Dakota. I don’t know. I’m going to play a hunch. Minnesota-Duluth 3-2, 3-1
Matthew: I have a sneaking suspicion we’ll have another new national No. 1 next week. UMD won’t get swept like North Dakota was last week in Duluth, but I don’t see the Bulldogs getting another two wins here. St. Cloud State 3-2, Minnesota-Duluth 3-2
Colorado College at Omaha
Candace: Fun fact: Colorado College hasn’t won on a Friday, but has won two of three on Saturdays. Omaha hasn’t lost on a Friday, but has only won once on Saturday in three games. Complicating matters is that CC has a poor defense. The Tigers also alternated: CC won, then lost, then won on a Saturday. Hmmm. Omaha 3-2, 4-3
Matthew: Dean Blais spoke earlier this week about needing to start conference play off well. I think they’ll use decent performances from last week against Massachusetts-Lowell as a springboard and sweep CC. Omaha 3-2, 3-1
Miami at Western Michigan
Candace: This has split all over it. Of course, I thought that last weekend for Western Michigan against Denver, but Miami hasn’t been consistent enough for me to pick a sweep. Western Michigan 3-1, Miami 3-2
Matthew: I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens with this series. It has “split” written all over it to me, but I could be wrong. Western Michigan 3-1, Miami 3-1
No. 3 North Dakota at No. 13 Minnesota
Candace: I’m going with the league homer pick. North Dakota 3-2, 3-2
Matthew: I’d like to take the league homer role here, but for as much as I can’t see UND losing four in a row, I can’t really see Minnesota starting 0-3 at home, either. Split. North Dakota 3-2, Minnesota 3-2
