Last time: 1-1
Overall: 29-16-4
The majority of ECAC Hockey concludes the first half this weekend. Here’s a look at the games on the schedule, including a home-and-home series between rivals Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
All games start at 7 or 7:05 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
St. Lawrence at Clarkson
Everything has gone right for the Golden Knights lately – and nothing has gone right for the Saints. Clarkson is in the midst of a nine- game unbeaten streak, while St. Lawrence is riddled with injuries and has the worst record in Division I. The school also announced it was investigating the team for potential NCAA and school violations. I just can’t see the Golden Knights dropping this game. Clarkson wins
Maine at Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac has one win in its last five games and needs something to click if it hopes to turn it around entering the break. Maine is on a three-game unbeaten streak, so I’m going to ride the hot hand. Maine wins
Colgate at Connecticut
Raiders coach Don Vaughan missed out on a chance to get his 400th career win last weekend against Army West Point. I think Colgate’s defense and goalie Colton Point is enough to get the Vaughan the milestone this weekend. Colgate wins
Princeton at Arizona State, 9:05 p.m. EDT
The Tigers have been a little inconsistent so far this year, but scoring hasn’t been a problem, as Princeton is averaging more than three goals a game. Those numbers are boosted by a nine-goal outburst against Dartmouth last weekend, but the Princeton’s offense has still been impressive thus far. The Sun Devils haven’t had as much luck scoring, and I’m not sure if Arizona State will be able to keep pace with the Tigers. Princeton wins
Saturday, Dec. 9
Clarkson at St. Lawrence
Like I said above, these are two teams going in opposite directions. Clarkson wins
Bentley at Dartmouth
The Big Green are in the midst of a five-game winless streak, although goalie Adrian Clark has played well lately. The sophomore made 43 saves in a 0-0 tie at Quinnipiac Saturday, and has a .932 save percentage this year. Assuming Clark starts, I think that might be enough to get a win against the Falcons. Dartmouth wins
Maine at Quinnipiac
It’s tough to get a sweep on the road, so I think the Bobcats bounce back and head into the break with a win. Quinnipiac wins
Holy Cross at Union
Both of these teams are averaging more than three goals a game, so there should be plenty of offense. Despite a loss to Yale Saturday, I like how the Dutchmen have been playing lately. Union wins
Yale at Sacred Heart
The Bulldogs have been tough to get a read on through the first half of the season. Yale has beat Harvard and Union, but struggled overall with a 4-7 record. However, the Pioneers’ win at Mercyhurst Saturday was their first in eight games. I’ll take the Bulldogs in a matchup of inconsistent teams. Yale wins
Brown at Vermont
After an encouraging rally Saturday against Rensselaer, the Bears lost to Bentley 3-1 Wednesday. Still, Vermont has struggled this season to score this year, and I think Brown should be able to string together enough offense for the win. Brown wins
Princeton at Arizona State, 9:05 p.m. EDT
Tigers complete the sweep. Princeton wins
Sunday, Dec. 10
Massachusetts at Union, 5 p.m.
These teams met earlier this year, a 5-4 win for the Minutemen. That loss pushed Union’s record to 0-4, but the Dutchmen are 9-3-1 since then. Union wins
