A bit of a strange schedule for the Great Lakes Invitational this year, with the games taking place Monday and Tuesday at Detroit’s new Little Caesar’s Arena.
That means the 53rd GLI is getting its own blog post from us for the New Year.
The games begin in less then two hours, so here’s what we think is going to happen.
Jack: The Huskies are playing well right now, with just one regulation loss in their last eight games. MSU, meanwhile, has been off from competitive games since the second week of December. Because of that, I like the Huskies to beat their instate rivals here. In the other game, Michigan is missing a lot of key pieces due to the World Juniors. I think that’s enough for Bowling Green to pull off an upset. And I’m predicting a rematch of the WCHA title game in the championship match-up. And like that game, I think the Huskies come out on top. Huskies 3, Spartans 1; Falcons 4, Wolverines 2. Championship: Huskies 4, Falcons 1.
Sean: It’s a bit of a showcase weekend for the WCHA in one the bigger holiday tournaments. The Falcons plays a Wolverine team missing some big names for international competition, while Huskies have a chance to make some noise against the Spartans. Call it a hunch, but the conference makes a big move. Falcons 2, Wolverines 1; Huskies 3, Spartans 2. Championship: Falcons 2, Huskies 1
