Three freshmen provided the offense for St. Cloud State on Friday as the Huskies defeated Ferris State 3-1 at the National Hockey Center.
Andy Lundbohm, Brian Schuster and Jeff Finger scored to erase a 1-0 Bulldogs lead as the Huskies won their season opener for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
Kevin Swider scored a power-play goal 2:56 into the first period, but Lundbohm countered off a Duvie Westcott assist at 6:06.
Schuster scored the game-winner at 9:21 of the first and Finger added to the lead with a power-play goal at the 16-minute mark.
St. Cloud’s Scott Meyer made 28 saves. Vince Owen made 19 saves for Ferris State, including 11 in the third.
