Down 1-0 late in the third period, ninth-ranked Wisconsin-River Falls got the tying goal from defenseman Adam Kragthorpe en route to a 1-1 overtime draw with Marian.
Marian opened the scoring in the first period when freshman forward Tommy Kotsopoulos stuffed one past River Falls’ goaltender Jacque Vezina at the 4:11 mark. He was assisted by Joe Moreau.
Both teams fired 10 shots on goal in the opening stanza.
River Falls did not even the score until the 18:05 mark of the third period when Kragthorpe banged home a one-timer from the slot on a feed from Jeff Bernard.
Sabres freshman goaltender Terry Dunbar was spectacular in the third period as the Falcons mustered a 15-5 shot advantage, which included three power-play opportunities. For the game, Marian killed off all five advantages, while River Falls held the Sabres off the board on two power-play chances.
River Falls finished the game with 40 shots against 26 from the Sabres. Both teams had two shots in the five-minute overtime.
The same two teams meet again at the Blueline Ice Center in Fond du Lac on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m..
