Lake Forest picked up its first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association win, 3-1 over Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday.
It was Lake Forest’s (3-1-1, 1-1-1 NCHA) first conference home game and third NCHA game overall, while UW-Eau Claire (1-4-0, 0-1-0 NCHA) played its first league contest. Both teams are fledging varsity programs.
Lake Forest’s Theresa Taylor got the win in net by recording 28 saves, including 13 in the decisive third period.
Lydia Groskin scored a power-play goal with just under five minutes to play in the second period for the game’s only tally through two periods.
UW-Eau Claire’s Megan Christopherson tied the game 1:18 into the third period, but Lake Forest responded just 12 seconds later when Tory Solley found the back of the net for the fourth time this season.
Laura Beebe added an insurance goal at the 8:31 mark.
UW-Eau Claire outshot the Foresters, 29-18, on the day, but went scoreless on five power-play attempts.
