Wayne State jumped out to a 3-0 lead and defeated Mercyhurst, 4-1, on Friday in a non-league game.
Wayne State (7-8-1) got on the board first with a late first period goal by Kalle Rahm.
The Warriors broke the game open in the second period with two tallies. The first goal came at 12:28 as was scored by Jack Redwood. Four minutes later Maxim Starchenko scored to make it 3-0.
The Lakers (5-3-2) scored early in the third period as Marty Rychley made it 3-1, but Wayne State’s Keith Stanich scored on the power play to close the scoring at 4-1.
Laker goalie Matt Cifelli made his first collegiate start and stopped 23 Warrior shots in the loss while David Guerrera made 20 saves.
Wayen State will host AIC for a pair next weekend and Mercyhurst will host Iona on Saturday.
