Buffalo State scored five second period goals en route to a 7-2 win over the Utica College Pioneers in the Buffalo State All Sport Invitational.
The Pioneers, in their first-ever collegiate game, scored first, as Scott Leygraff tallied at 5:51 of the first period, for Utica’s only lead.
The Bengals tied the game at 1-1 on a power play goal by Jason Comardo at 11:35 of the first.
The Bengals reeled off four straight goals in the second, as Mark Yoder scored in a 5-on-3, Mark Infantino and Dan Vogel added even-strength goals, and Joe Urbanik scored shorthanded.
Leygraff notched his second goal of the contest, unassisted, to close the gap to 5-2, before Buffalo State’s Rocky Reeves scored on the power play late in the period.
Josh Bluman added a penalty shot at 6:11 of the third for the Bengals.
Nick Berti made 27 saves for Buffalo State for his first win in goal this season, while Mike Beacham stopped 28 shots for Utica in the loss.
Utica (0-1-0) faces Fredonia at Buffalo State Saturday at 4:00 p.m., while Buffalo State (1-2-0) hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7:00 p.m.
