After the teams skated to a scoreless first period, the Spartans got on the board early in the second on the power play, as Michael Ferrantino put home his sixth goal of the year from Matt Berry and Travis Walsh.

Midway through the second, Jonathan Liau tied the game on a Tommy Davis rebound. After Kyle Rankin got the puck to the point, Davis took the shot as Liau was parked at the top of the crease, and Liau was able the sneak the puck in around the right pad of goaltender Jake Hildebrand.

Hallisey netted the game winner unassisted at 14:35 of the second, and Ben Foster gave the Tigers an insurance goal at 3:23 of the third unassisted on the power play.

Phinney improved to 2-5-1 in the win for the Tigers. Hildebrand made 21 saves for Michigan State.
