After two scoreless stanzas, Brandt capitalized on an errant pass intercepted by Brooke Garzone to give the Gophers a 1-0 lead. Just 1:04 later, Menefee burried her fourth of the year as a Princeton skater’s stick accidentally got caught in Kimberly Newell’s pads, and she was unable to get back into position for the Menefee shot between the circles.
Following the two quick goals, Princeton coach Jeff Kampersal called a timeout to settle down his team, and the Tigers were able to gain some momentum, as Minnesota was called for four consecutive penalties. But Princeton was able to cash in only once, as Brianna Leahy’s deflection from Kelsey Kolzer at the point at 15:18 was the only goal to beat Minnesota goaltender Amanda Leveille.
Leveille made 15 saves to improve to 11-1-1 in the win for the Gophers. Newell made 42 saves for the Tigers.
