MANKATO, Minn. — Austin Ortega picked up right where he left off for No. 10 Omaha.
The forward got credit for the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over No. 6 Minnesota State in Friday’s season opener.
Last season, Ortega set an NCAA record with 11 game-winning goals.
Jake Randolph and Jake Guentzel scored in the first period for Omaha and Ortega made it 3-0 in the second.
Jimmy Mullin and C.J. Franklin scored in the second and third periods, respectively, for Minnesota State.
Kirk Thompson made 24 saves for Omaha, while Cole Huggins stopped 22 shots for Minnesota State.
