GRAND FORKS, N.D. — After starting the season winless through six games, Wisconsin has won three straight, and its most recent victory was a stunner.
Matt Jurusik stopped 29 shots, and Luke Kunin broke a tie early in the second period as the Badgers beat No. 1 North Dakota 3-1 on Friday.
Corbin McGuire and Jedd Soleway also scored for Wisconsin (3-3-3), which handed North Dakota coach Brad Berry his first collegiate loss.
Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves, meanwhile, improved to 3-0 against a top-ranked North Dakota team; the Badgers swept No. 1 UND in Madison in February 2004.
“It’s one of those wins that you’d put under the signature win column,” Eaves said. “It gives us some juice. It solidifies some of the things we’ve been trying to teach and preach as a coaching staff.”
Luke Johnson put UND (6-1-2) ahead in the first period before the Badgers scored the game’s final three goals.
Matt Hrynkiw made 20 saves for North Dakota.
