PRINCETON, N.J. — Colton Phinney made 31 saves to complete his first collegiate shutout as Princeton defeated No. 20 Clarkson 3-0 Saturday at Hobey Baker Rink.
The Tigers offense was firing on all cylinders, as three lines and eight different players contributed to the score sheet.
Eric Robinson netted the game-winning goal at 12:55 of the first period as Alex Riche fed Ben Foster from the circle, and Foster slid the puck to Robinson in front for his third goal of the season.
Princeton captain Kyle Rankin padded the Tigers’ lead just 1:57 into the second, as Rankin carried the puck in from the blue line into the slot and snapped the puck past goaltender Steve Perry using defensemen Aaron Thow as a screen.
Max Véronneau added an insurance goal at 11:55 of the third for Princeton, which improved to 2-6 (1-5 ECAC Hockey).
The Golden Knights outshot the Tigers 26-14 in the final two stanzas, but were unable to beat Phinney.
Perry finished the game with 21 saves for Clarkson (5-4-2, 0-3-2).
