MINNEAPOLIS — Alex Kile recorded his first collegiate hat trick and NCAA scoring leader Kyle Connor added two goals in No. 6 Michigan’s 6-2 victory over No. 20 Minnesota on Thursday.
The Wolverines won at Mariucci Arena for the first time since 2008, ending a string of five straight losses, and passed the Gophers for first place in the Big Ten.
Kile scored in the first and second periods as the Wolverines (20-4-5, 10-2-3 Big Ten) opened up a two-goal lead after 40 minutes.
His third goal of the night made it 4-0 in the third.
Connor scored a power-play goal for his 25th score of the season and added another on a breakaway to make it 6-0.
Steve Johnson and Tommy Novak scored late for the Gophers (16-14, 11-4).
Steve Racine stopped 31 shots for Michigan, while Eric Schierhorn made 18 saves for Minnesota.
