OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha kicked off its two-game series against Union in a big way as the Mavericks blew out No. 19 Union 5-1 at Baxter Arena.
Omaha got off to a 4-0 lead while getting goals from four different players. Senior defenseman Joel Messner’s power-play goal in the second period was enough to knock out Dutchmen junior goaltender Jake Kupsky.
Union’s lone goal came later in the second as junior forward Cole Maier tallied the team’s lone goal.
