Michigan Tech potted three first period goals and held off an Eagles rally to win their first game in the Ice Vegas Invitational.
Dylan Steman opened the scoring for the Huskies with a penalty shot that beat Boston College goaltender Ryan Edquist. Michigan Tech added two more goals in the period from Brent Baltus and Alex Smith, both coming on the power play.
The 13th ranked Eagles showed off their prowess on the power play in the second period, as Casey Fitzgerald and Graham McPhee capitalized on chances against Huskies netminder Devin Kero.
Midway through the third period, Tech’s Gavin Gould gave his team a two goal advantage. Although Boston College climbed within one with an extra attacker goal, it was not enough to lift the Eagles over the Huskies.
Both the Huskies and Eagles will await the results from the second game of the Invitational between Northern Michigan and Arizona State. The Huskies will take on the winner in the title game, while Boston College will play in the consolation game.
