Boston College traveled out to Las Vegas for the inaugural Ice Vegas Invitational as slight favorites in the four-team field. In the end, the Eagles left without a victory and a fourth-place finish.

A night after falling, 4-3, to Michigan Tech in the semifinals, Boston College skated to a 3-3 tie with Northern Michigan in the consolation game. Northern Michigan’s Robbie Payne and Darien Craighead scored the only two goals of the shootout to earn third place in the tournament.

Northern Michigan led for much of the game before the Eagles took their first lead of the weekend. After Julius Mattila tied the score at 2 with 32 seconds remaining in the second, David Cotton scored with 10:43 left in regulation to give BC the lead.

But Philip Beaulieu, who set up Northern Michigan’s first goal of the game, scored at 12:07 of the third to force overtime.
