A night after being shut out, 5-0, Minnesota State took the second game of the series with a 5-1 win over the Alaska Nanooks, picking up a split on the weekend. Things did not look good for the Mavericks (17-7-0, 15-5-0 WCHA) at first, as Parker Toomie received a game misconduct just 15 seconds into the game. Tyler Cline scored on the ensuing power play for the Nanooks (9-13-2, 7-10-1-1 WCHA), giving them an early lead. Nonetheless, Minnesota State netted three first-period goals (including two from Brad McClure) to take a 3-1 lead. Two more goals in the second period saw Anton Martinsson pulled for Niko DellaMaggiore. Connor LaCouvee made 16 saves for the Mavericks, while Martinsson stopped 25 of 30 for the Nanooks. DellaMaggiore stopped all six shots he faced. There were 87 minutes worth of penalties issued (40 for Alaska, 47 for Minnesota State). The Mavericks converted on three of their 10 power-play opportunities, while the Nanooks went 1-for-7.
