BURLINGTON, Vt. – Liam Coughlin netted his first career hat trick as Vermont skated to a 4-0 lead and held off a furious comeback by the visiting River Hawks, eventually holding on for a 6-3 victory.
The power play was friendly to both teams with Vermont scoring three goals with the man advantage to Lowell’s two. And a night after the River Hawks rallied from 2-0 down in the third to win 3-2 in overtime, it may have felt like déjà vu as goals by Tommy Panico, Ryan Lohin and John Edwardh cut a four-goal lead to one heading to the third.
Saturday, though, the Catamounts closed things out as Ross Colton scored his team leading 12th of the season on a breakaway with9:16 left and Coughlin finished his hat trick with an empty netter with 1:33 left.
Stefanos Lekkas made 35 saves while earning the victory.
