One night after pitching an eight-goal shutout, the Terriers were given everything they could handle by their hosts at Oceanside Ice Arena, as it took Shane Bowers’ goal at 8:41 of the third period to ensure the weekend sweep in non-conference play. Jake Oettinger made 10 of his 18 saves in the final frame, improving to 12-10-2 on the year.
BU took a 2-0 lead out of the first intermission on the strength of goals from defensemen Brandon Hickey and Dante Fabbro. Its lead was cut to just one after two, though, as Johnny Walker and Jacob Wilson scored shorthanded and on the power play, respectively, for ASU. Brien Diffley closed the period’s scoring for BU at the 7:24 mark.
David Norris scored another power-play goal at 14:40 of the third, but the Terriers held on for the one-goal win in a game that featured 117 penalty minutes. Joey Daccord made 37 saves for the Sun Devils, including 16 in the first period. BU’s Drew Melanson and ASU’s Brinson Pasichnuk recorded two assists for their respective teams.
