Rem Pitlick had two goals and an assist and Tyler Sheehy had a goal and two assists — including a helper on Brent Gates Jr.’s game-winning goal — as No. 12 Minnesota sailed past No. 17 Wisconsin, 7-1, to complete a two-game road sweep of the Badgers.
The Golden Gophers converted 3-of-7 power-play opportunities as the teams combined for 36 penalty minutes, evenly divided.
Leon Bristedt scored just 1:07 into the first period to give the Gophers the very early 1-0 lead, and Minnesota led 3-1 after one on Bristedt’s opener, Gates’ game-winner at 9:48, and Tyler Nanne’s four-on-three power-play goal at 15:38. Trent Frederic scored at 18:47 in the first for Wisconsin, his 15th of the season.
Pitlick’s goals bookended the second period, an even-strength marker at 1:44 and another on the power play at 18:36. Sheehy made it 6-1 at 10:29 in the third, a four-on-four goal, and at 15:13, Jack Ramsey had Minnesota’s third power-play goal of the night.
Mat Robson had 23 saves in his fifth win of the season. Jack Berry started the night in net for Wisconsin, but was replaced by Kyle Hayton at 15:38 in the first after Berry surrendered the first three goals. Minnesota scored four times on Hayton, but Berry earns the loss.
