Miami enjoyed its best offensive outing of the season Saturday night, cruising to a 6-2 defeat of the Nebraska-Omaha, giving the RedHawks their first CCHA sweep since February of last season.<\/p>\n

Miami came out firing, tallying a Nick Jardine goal at 6:36 in the first period. Jardine’s score, which was set up by Gregor Krajnc and Pavel Nejezchleb, marked the first time in 19 games that the Red and White was able to tally the first goal in the first period of a contest. <\/p>\n

Krajnc, who tallied a hat trick in Friday night’s contest, kept his hot hand with Miami’s second goal at 11:40 in the frame. <\/p>\n

UNO’s David Brisson scored with two seconds remaining in the period, to reduce Miami’s lead to one goal.<\/p>\n

The RedHawks continued their offensive in the second period, rolling up 12 shots on goal, including two more scores. Ernie Hartlieb struck a power play goal at 5:12 with help from Jason Deskins and Ken Marsch, and Evan Cheverie netted his fifth goal of the season with a lightning strike just 43 seconds later, assisted by Matt Chandler. UNO’s lone goal of the period came from Jason Cupp at 15:35.<\/p>\n

Deskins tallied his fifth goal of the year at 8:07 to give Miami a season-high five goals and freshman Greg Hogeboom put an exclamation point on the Miami win with an empty-net score at 18:53.<\/p>\n

David Burliegh, won his third consecutive game in net, stopping 16 Maverick shots. Dan Ellis absorbed the loss in net for the Mavericks.<\/p>\n

Miami, which now stands at 5-5-2 and 2-3-1 in the CCHA, hosts Lake Superior State next Friday and Saturday, and Nebraska-Omaha (6-6-0, 3-5-0 CCHA) will be at Merrimack next weekend for a pair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
