Eric Ellis netted two goals lifting Mercyhurst past the Connecticut, 4-1, in a MAAC matchup at the UConn Ice Arena in Storrs on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The loss drops UConn to 10-14-4 overall, 10-7-3 in the MAAC, while Mercyhurst improves to 15-9-2 overall, 15-4-1 in the conference.<\/p>\n

Ellis scored the first of his two goals at the 8:19 mark of the first period, followed by a P.J. Hiscock score six minutes later.<\/p>\n

With just over a minute remaining in the period, Marty Rychley gave Mercyhurst the 3-0 lead. Ellis’ second tally came midway through the second period during a power play opportunity.<\/p>\n

UConn’s only tally of the night came with 1:17 remaining in regulation. Bret Bostock nailed a shot from the blue line for the short-handed unassisted goal. <\/p>\n

Jason Carey suffered the loss in net recording 24 saves, while Mercyhurst’s Peter Aubry stopped 16 UConn shots. The Lakers outshot the Huskies, 28-17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
