Miami (4-2-1, 2-0-1 CCHA) tied Western Michigan (3-2-2, 2-2-1 CCHA) 4-4 after a late third-period goal by junior Danny Stewart put a cap on the game’s scoring. Special teams dominated the game as Miami finished 3-of-11 on the power play while WMU converted on 1-of-8 chances.<\/p>\n

The RedHawks got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period on power-play goals by sophomore Mike Kompon and freshman Joe Pomaranski. Kompon registered his second goal of the season at 3:03 in the period with assists from freshman Todd Grant and sophomore Derek Edwardson.<\/p>\n

At 16:07 in the stanza Pomaranski netted his third goal of the season to give the RedHawks a 2-0 advantage entering the first intermission.<\/p>\n

Western Michigan dominated the second period, outscoring the home team 3-1. Senior Chad Kline scored the Broncos’ first goal of the game at 5:04. Western Michigan kept the momentum on its side with a game-tying goal by junior Dave Cousineau at 8:43 after a scrum in front of the Miami goal.<\/p>\n

Junior Brent Rumble gave the Broncos their first lead of the contest with his third goal of the season on a power play at 11:43. Rumble’s goal was the first time that Miami had allowed an opponent to score a man-advantage goal in 19 chances.<\/p>\n

Kompon recorded Miami’s only goal of the second period to tie the game at three apiece at 18:01. His second goal of the game and third of the season was assisted by sophomore Greg Hogeboom and junior Chris Knupp. Kompon’s goal was Miami’s third power-play strike of the contest.<\/p>\n

In the third period, the Broncos jumped on top 4-3 with a shorthanded goal by Jeff Campbell at 13:29. Western Michigan retained the one-goal lead until Stewart provided the heroics with his second goal of the season at 16:57 in the stanza. The two teams remained knotted at four apiece for the remainder of the third period and overtime.<\/p>\n

Both goalies recorded solid games in the crease as Western Michigan’s goalkeeper, freshman Mike Mantua, had 42 stops and junior David Burleigh registered 28 saves for the RedHawks.<\/p>\n
