The Ohio State Buckeyes scored three goals in a 7:19 span over the first and second periods to kick-start a 5-1 victory over the Bemidji State women Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.

Heather Farrell got the Buckeyes on the board with a shorthanded goal at 18:51 of the first period, getting past BSU goaltender Bre Dedrickson who had come out of the net to play a puck and effectively scoring an empty-net goal.

The Buckeyes then picked up goals at 2:32 and 6:12 of the second to take a 3-0 lead, and from there would cruise to the victory.

Farrell notched her first career hat trick for the Buckeyes. In addition to her shorthanded tally in the first, she picked up goals at 6:12 of the second period and 2:26 of the third. It is the third hat trick allowed by BSU this year, and second in the team’s last three games.

Kerri McEwen tallied BSU’s lone goal of the night, picking up an even-strength score at 9:14 of the second with an assist from Guylaine Hache.

After allowing three goals in a losing effort last night, OSU goaltender Melissa Glaser saved 26 of 27 shots faced and improved to 8-4-2 on the season. Dedrickson saved 26 shots, but allowed five goals in the losing effort. She falls to 6-6-4 on the season.

After Friday night’s game saw four of five goals come on the power play, Saturday the penalty-killers dominated. BSU went 0-for-7 on the power play and Ohio State was also shut out, going 0 for 2.

Bemidji State falls to 7-7-4 with the loss and sees its WCHA record fall to 5-6-3. Ohio State improves to 10-7-3 overall, and moves back into a tie with BSU in the WCHA standings at 5-6-3.
