Mercyhurst at No. 1 Clarkson

The Lakers gave Clarkson everything they could handle on Saturday. Mercyhurst had a 1-0 lead heading into the third period thanks to a goal from Brooke Hartwick with just 20 seconds left in the second. Michaela Pejzlová scored on a power play to even if up at force overtime. Clarkson outshot Mercyhurst 10-5 in the overtime period. Élizabeth Giguère scored the game-winner 16:52 into the extra frame to give Clarkson the 2-1 win.

Minnesota at No. 2 Wisconsin

This one felt like all Badgers from start to finish. The teams felt each other out in the first few minutes, but Presley Norby scored for Wisconsin after drawing a penalty and having her initial shot blocked. Her shot from her knees beat Sidney Peters, and that was the beginning of the end for the Gophers. Wisconsin played a stellar game from start to finish and were relentless in their pressure on Minnesota. The Badgers’ first three goals came as the result of turnovers they forced. WCHA Offensive Player of the Year Abby Roque ensured the win for the Badgers when she scored twice in 16 seconds in the second period. Claudia Kepler added a power-play goal late in the third to give Wisconsin the 4-0 win.

Northeastern at No. 3 Colgate

The teams felt evenly matched for the first two periods, but Colgate began to pull away as the clock ran down. Breane Wilson-Bennett scored on a power play midway through the third and Northeastern’s Andrea Renner responded two minutes later. Olivia Zafuto scored the game-winner less than two minutes into the third period, and Bailey Larson secured the win with an empty-net goal to give Colgate a 3-1 edge.

Ohio State at No. 4 Boston College

The Buckeyes dominated BC in shots until the final frame. It was 32-15 after the second period before the Eagles took 23 shots in the final period. Ohio State had the Eagles back on their heels, and BC could not get their normally potent offense in sync. Lauren Boyle scored for OSU on a power play midway through the second, and Maddy Field’s goal that dribbled in after Katie Burt looked to stop it was the dagger in BC’s furious third-period attempt to salvage the game. Ohio State won 2-0.
