{"id":23687,"date":"1998-02-06T20:08:51","date_gmt":"1998-02-07T02:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uscho.com\/1998\/02\/06\/mtu-stays-with-wcha\/"},"modified":"2010-08-17T19:54:09","modified_gmt":"2010-08-18T00:54:09","slug":"mtu-stays-with-wcha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uscho.com\/1998\/02\/06\/mtu-stays-with-wcha\/","title":{"rendered":"MTU Stays With WCHA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michigan Tech announced Friday its intention to remain a member of the WCHA, ending several months of speculation following the departure of in-state rival Northern Michigan to the neighboring CCHA.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to remain in the WCHA came along with an endorsement of the proposed Hockey Educational Center, which athletic director Rick Yeo said would include expanded facilities for players, coaches and alumni. The notion of a hockey endowment fund was also endorsed by Yeo and hockey head coach Tim Watters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Certainly the issue of which league Michigan Tech belongs in has been the hottest topic externally,&#8221; said Yeo, &#8220;but that is one of many significant issues we have looked at over the last several months.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yeo also noted the formation of a Hockey Advisory Council, which met at MTU&#8217;s recent Winter Carnival.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan Tech is currently 13-12-2 overall, and tied for fifth in the WCHA with an 8-11-1 league record.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michigan Tech announced Friday its intention to remain a member of the WCHA, ending several months of speculation following the departure of in-state rival Northern Michigan to the neighboring CCHA.
