According to college officials, Foy, a highly-touted recruit a year ago, cited academic reasons for his departure.<\/p>\n<p>In his freshman campaign with the Warriors, Foy scored six goals and 17 assists in 29 games. Foy is ranked 34th by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau among North American forwards and defensemen eligible for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, which is third highest behind Boston University&#8217;s Ryan Whitney (3rd) and Brian McConnell (33rd) among Hockey East players. <\/p>\n<p>According to school officials, it is unclear where Foy will play next year. The likely option is major junior, since he is too young to play in the American Hockey League, the NHL&#8217;s top feeder league.<\/p>\n<p>A native of Mississauga, Ont., Foy most recently played junior hockey for the Wexford Raiders of the Ontario Hockey Association (Provincial Junior A).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Merrimack forward Matt Foy has left school and will not return for the 2002-03 season.
