Salve Regina is still two games under .500 overall, and seems to have settled into the middle of the pack in the ECAC Northeast. With Western New England, Curry, and Nichols in front of the Seahawks, and Wentworth, the preseason pick to win it all, behind them, it’s going to be tough sledding for Salve the rest of the way, despite a decent start.

With 10 games under their belt, a 4-6 record in the standings, and a 2-2 mark in the league, the Seahawks have turned some heads. Give them credit for that. Keep in mind, this is a team that went 6-19 last season.

“Salve Regina is right there,” Western New England coach Greg Heffernan said. “Out of conference, in conference, they are in every game, and it just goes to show you how tough our league is.”

Saturday, the Seahawks will get a chance to further the process. A victory in a road date at Curry could go a long way toward stamping Salve Regina as a player in this suddenly crowded conference race. Three Salve forwards are among the league scoring leaders. Sophomore Michael Naso has six points, and John Scorcia, also a sophomore, and freshman Cameron Gaudet have five each. All told, the Seahawks have balance, poise, and are playing with a purpose.

If this league has shown anything early on however, it’s the fact that consistency will be a tough thing moving forward. The talent and the teams are just too close to each other for any one team to make a lengthy run before losing. Perhaps on Saturday, the Seahawks get a taste of that. Curry 6, Salve Regina 5

Saturday, Dec. 1

Johnson and Wales at Western New England

The Golden Bears have quickly become the talk of the league, as they have scored goals in bunches and have lived up to the early hype. Now, the preseason No. 2 pick in the league has a chance to further hold Johnson and Wales down. We think the Golden Bears will. Western New England 5-2

Wentworth at Becker

Coach R.J. Tolan can’t be thrilled with the Leopards’ up-and-down start. There’s plenty of time left, though, and the team with perhaps the most skill and speed in the league should be able to handle this road tilt. Wentworth 7-2

Wednesday

Stonehill at Suffolk

The Rams have stumbled a bit after a fast start, but we like them in this spot, as they will host a Skyhawks team that will be playing its fourth game in five days. Lot of tired legs, perhaps, on that roster. Just the kind of opponent Suffolk can turn things around with. Suffolk 4-3
