Goaltender Marc Cheverie has signed a two-year entry level contract with the Florida Panthers, forgoing his final year of eligibility with Denver.

Though Denver finished its season disappointingly, losing its final three games, Cheverie finished with a 24-6-3 record, a 2.08 goals-against average, .932 saves percentage and six shutouts. Denver captured its 12th MacNaughton Cup, the Gold Pan Trophy and the Wells Fargo Denver Cup title. He was named the WCHA player of the year, and his .934 saves percentage and 2.05 goals-against led all WCHA goaltenders.

For his career, Cheverie’s .926 saves percentage is tops in Denver history. He also set marks for consecutive shutout minutes at 223:51. His 2.21 GAA is third, and he is fourth in shutouts with 10 and ninth in wins with 48.

In a press release, Florida GM Randy Sexton said, “We are very pleased to have reached a contract agreement with Marc. He is (a) very talented prospect who we believe will have a bright future in our organization. He has gained tremendous experience while playing at the University of Denver and we look forward to his continued growth and development as a member of the Florida Panthers.”

“Marc established himself as the best goaltender in college hockey this season and is ready for professional hockey,” said Denver coach George Gwozdecky said. “He was our most valuable player the past two seasons and is one of the most competitive players I’ve coached. Marc’s dedication and work ethic paid dividends after his freshman season. He will graduate this June with a finance degree and we look forward to watching Marc compete at the next level.”
