The RIT men’s team raised $6,938.18 for Massachusetts-Lowell alum Craig Charron, who is battling stomach cancer, through the sale of special game-worn jerseys from RIT’s home opener at a sold-out Blue Cross Arena last Saturday night.<\/p>\n
The Tigers wore black jerseys for the game against Lowell, which ended in a 4-4 tie.\u00a0 The 24 jerseys were auctioned off online, with bidding completed on Sunday.\u00a0 Each jersey went for at least $230, while junior forward Cameron Burt’s jersey went for the highest bid at $350.18.<\/p>\n
Charron’s sons, Jackson and Nicholas, helped RIT president Bill Destler and
\nESPN’s Barry Melrose with the evening’s ceremonial puck drop.<\/p>\n
“I thought the evening was a tremendous success,” said RIT head coach Wayne Wilson on the RIT website.\u00a0 “We are honored to be able to help Craig in his fight against cancer.”<\/p>\n
The contest against UMass Lowell drew a sellout crowd of 10,556 fans, which was the largest to see a RIT regular season game not only in Rochester, but all-time.\u00a0 It was also just the fourth sellout of Blue Cross Arena since it was renovated in the mid-1990s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
